Where Daycare Means Guidance, Not Just Watching

Irvington families didn’t fall for a neighborhood of century-old porches and carefully restored homes by settling for “good enough,” and a dog’s weekday deserves the same standard. Booking Dog Daycare in Irvington, Portland, OR with Rose City Dogs gets your dog something beyond an open floor and a staffer counting down to pickup.

Small Batch care is built on purpose, one piece at a time. Playgroups form around dogs who genuinely enjoy each other. Handlers work from inside the group instead of watching from the edges. Bursts of activity trade off with stretches of calm, and every dog who comes through the door gets individual attention. The sum of those choices is a social day that’s healthier, and means a lot more, than hours of commotion.

Any daycare can send home a tired dog. A fulfilled dog takes real effort, and that effort is exactly what we do.

A Daycare Day With Intention Behind It

Lessons Ride Along With Every Game

Every interaction on our floor doubles as a chance to practice.

Over the course of a day, your dog might work on waiting calmly at a gate, giving a newcomer room to find their footing, greeting people with all four paws on the ground, checking in when they hear their name, respecting another dog’s request for space, taking a break before play gets too intense, and discovering that a quiet lie-down is a perfectly acceptable choice.

None of that happens without a handler close by. Our team stays in the thick of the action, reinforcing the decisions we’d like to see repeated, redirecting early when things start to drift, and guiding dogs through the social moments that pop up along the way. That’s how an everyday visit turns into structured dog socialization.

  • Patience without the protest
  • A beat of thought before a reaction
  • Calm, four-on-the-floor greetings with people
  • Respect for another dog’s boundaries
  • Play that stays balanced for both dogs
  • The ability to wind down and rest

There’s no add-on fee for any of this. It’s simply part of every Small Batch daycare day.

Playgroups Matched Dog by Dog

One dog lights up in a lively crowd; another is happiest with a couple of mellow companions. Both are perfectly fine.

When we put a group together, we look at each dog’s temperament, how they like to play, their energy, their confidence, their size, who they prefer to be around, and the friendships they’ve already made here.

Keeping groups small is a deliberate choice. It gives us room to make careful matches, catch the moment a dog needs a breather, and rearrange things as your dog grows and changes over the coming weeks and months.

In Small Batch care, the group adapts to the dogs in it. Dogs never have to squeeze themselves into a group.

Downtime Is Built Into the Day

Learning to Switch Off Is a Real Skill

Most dogs already have play figured out. That part comes naturally.

What far fewer dogs can do is press pause on the fun and genuinely relax, and that ability is well worth building.

From open to close, we create openings for dogs to leave the action, let their bodies reset, and rest. When a dog decides to settle on their own, we’re right there to make that decision worthwhile.

We don’t buy into the idea that a good daycare day has to stay loud from start to finish.

Quiet time isn’t a pause from daycare. Quiet time is part of daycare.

Guided Socialization Sessions

When a Dog Needs a Coach Before a Crowd

$75 | 60 Minutes

Not every dog arrives knowing how to navigate a new group of dogs, and we’d never expect one to work it out on their own.

If a Meet & Greet shows us that a dog could thrive in Small Batch daycare but isn’t quite ready yet, we may recommend Socialization Support, the dog socialization program we built for exactly this situation.

For that full hour, one team member focuses on your dog alone. That could mean beginning with one or two hand-picked playmates, giving extra room whenever your dog needs it, guiding how introductions and play take shape, rewarding every check-in, building in pauses, and gradually stepping back as your dog’s confidence grows.

The goal isn’t simply play.

The goal is a dog who feels secure enough to make good social choices.

Socialization Support is available after an assessment and is scheduled directly with our Enrichment Coordinator.

Every Daycare Dog Starts With a Meet & Greet

Ahead of any group placement, we schedule a Meet & Greet to learn about your dog: their personality, the way they communicate, the company they enjoy, and how they respond to our space.

Some dogs show us right away that they’re ready for Small Batch daycare.

Some are better served by beginning with Socialization Support.

And some let us know that group daycare simply isn’t for them, which is valuable to learn, not a setback.

Our goal was never to place every dog in our Dog Daycare in Irvington, Portland, OR. It’s to find out whether daycare is truly right for your dog.

Add One-on-One Enrichment Time

A Little Time That Belongs Only to Your Dog

Every Small Batch daycare day already includes intentional socialization, active group management, hands-on guidance, and scheduled rest.

Enrichment Time layers on something different: dedicated one-on-one attention.

Choose a 15- or 30-minute session, and a team member will discover what gets your dog excited, whether that’s scent work, agility, puzzle toys, skill practice, simple play, or just quiet time side by side.

Unsure what your dog would love? We didn’t know either, until we gave it a try.

Unaltered Dogs Disclaimer:

Unaltered dogs are only permitted in Private Daycare & Boarding (all dogs still require a Meet & Greet before booking).
Unaltered dogs under 7 months of age may qualify for cage-free boarding.

Other Services We Offer

    Dog Boarding in Irvington, Portland

When your dog stays the night, they won’t be shut in a kennel run. Our boarding is cage-free, run by PackPro-certified handlers, and covered by team members on-site around the clock. Dogs can settle into a private space or bunk down with the group, depending on what makes them most comfortable. Every overnight stay is hosted at our Cully/Alameda facility.

          Dog Grooming in Irvington, Portland

Each grooming session is one-on-one, so your dog has a groomer’s full focus from the first rinse to the final brush. We handle baths and brush-outs, neat trims, and de-shedding treatments, so your dog heads home looking polished and, just as important, feeling more comfortable. Grooming is offered at both our Broadway and Cully locations.

                Dog Enrichment in Irvington, Portland

At either location, an enrichment session puts one team member’s attention entirely on your dog. We let your dog’s interests set the agenda, whether that’s sniffing out a challenge, climbing, working through a puzzle, or simply relaxing together, and the result is more confidence and a stronger bond.

                    Dog Daycare FAQ

Do you separate big dogs and small dogs?

Our Cully location features two dedicated programs: Cully Bigs for dogs over 30 lbs., and our Little Dog Resort for smaller pups. Also, our Broadway location does not separate dogs based on size. Each of our daycare programs are designed with the dogs’ comfort and safety in mind.

What’s a typical day like for my dog?

Dogs enjoy a mix of active play, rest breaks, enrichment activities, and personalized attention. Each group has its rhythm, depending on the energy level and personalities on display. Rest assured, every moment is supervised by our trained team.

What’s included in a daycare session?

A full day of small group play, socialization, group enrichment, and loving care. We also provide real-time updates through our client app so you can stay connected. One-on-one enrichment can be added to any daycare day.

My dog is shy or reactive—can they still attend daycare?

Absolutely. Our Private Socialization Program gently introduces dogs to the daycare environment. Our experienced team tailors each session to your dog’s emotional needs while helping them gain confidence over time.

                    What’s required to get started?

Every new daycare guest begins with a Meet & Greet, a 45-minute appointment that helps us learn more about your dog’s personality and behavior. It also gives your pup a chance to get comfortable with our space and staff. From there, we build a plan that works for you and your dog.

Meet & Greets are $25 per dog. Once your dog successfully completes their Meet & Greet, the full $25 will be added to your Rose City Dogs wallet and can be used toward any of our services.

How Rose City Dogs Fits Into Irvington Life

Irvington dog owners already know their neighborhood is one of the best in Portland for a good walk. Blocks of mature street trees shade the historic district’s Craftsman, Victorian, and Colonial Revival homes. Morning loops through Irving Park at NE 7th and Fremont are part of the routine, and a coffee stop along NE Broadway or NE 15th rarely comes without a leash in hand. What a long walk can’t always solve is a full workday. Plenty of Irvington residents commute into the Lloyd area or downtown, and a dog with energy to burn doesn’t wait for the evening to need something to do.

That’s the gap our dog daycarefacility near Irvington, Portland fills. The NE Broadway location sits just past Irvington’s eastern edge, about 1.2 miles from the middle of the neighborhood, so a morning drop-off is a short hop rather than a detour. Our Cully facility, a little under three miles away, covers weekend daycare when your schedule shifts. Irvington dogs join small, carefully matched groups with handlers who are paying attention to how every interaction goes. That matters most for the dog who loves company but gets overwhelmed in a crowd, or who is friendly but particular about playmates. At pickup, you get a dog who has spent the day socializing, resting, and practicing good manners, ready to settle in at home instead of pacing the living room.

Getting to Our Dog Daycare near Irvington, Portland

To our NE Broadway location (about 1.2 miles): Begin by heading toward NE 16th Avenue and drive roughly half a mile to NE 24th Avenue, where you’ll turn right. Three tenths of a mile later, swing left onto NE Tillamook Street, then make a quick right onto NE 27th Avenue after just 0.1 mile. Follow 27th for two tenths of a mile until it meets NE Broadway, and turn left. Roughly 0.1 mile down Broadway, make a right, and you’ll see our building at 2916 NE Broadway right there on your left. Broadway hosts daycare Monday through Friday only.

To our Cully location (about 2.8 miles): Set out toward NE Stanton Street, and after roughly four tenths of a mile, make a right onto NE Fremont Street. Stay on Fremont for about a mile and a half. When Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza comes up on your right, get ready, because your turn is just ahead: go left onto NE 42nd Avenue. Continue a little under a mile, and you’ll spot us on your right at 5224 NE 42nd Ave. This is the spot for weekend daycare and all overnight boarding.

Let’s Get to Know Your Dog.

Every dog has their own personality, play style, preferences, and needs.

That’s why every new daycare relationship begins with getting to know the dog in front of us.

Come experience Small Batch Dog Care.
